Critical Incident Declared After Crash At Crescent Head

A critical incident investigation has been declared following a police operation and crash on the Mid North Coast this afternoon.

About 1.10pm (Friday 27 December 2024), police attached to Mid North Coast Police District and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command responded to reports of a white Nissan 4WD with trailer attached, driving erratically around Crescent Head.

Police attempted to stop the driver, but he allegedly failed to do so. A short time later the vehicle was observed to travel from Maria River Road onto Crescent Head Road.

The vehicle travelled on Crescent Head Road at South Kempsey, where police received approval to deploy road spikes to stop the vehicle.

The driver, a man aged 39, allegedly attempted to avoid the road spikes, however he allegedly lost control and crashed and rolled the vehicle.

He was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics before being airlifted to a hospital is Brisbane for further treatment for head and spinal injuries.

A crime scene was established and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

A critical incident investigation team from Coffs/Clarence Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review.
