Critical Incident: Motorcyclist OC Sprayed, Crashes

Police have commenced a critical incident investigation after a teen crashed into a parked car in the state's west this morning.

About 3.50am today (Friday 3 January 2025), police were patrolling the West Tamworth area, when they stopped a motorbike on a footbridge off Gipps Street.

During the stop, police deployed OC spray when the rider allegedly resisted arrest before riding off and crashing into a parked car nearby.

The rider, an 18-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Tamworth Hospital in a critical condition. He has later airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.

Police have established a crime scene and a critical incident investigation team from Central North Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review.
