Critical Probe Initiated Post Solo-Vehicle Crash in Lismore

A critical investigation has been declared after a teenager was injured in a single-vehicle crash in the state's north.

About 10.30pm yesterday (13 June 2024) officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol observed a motorcycle pass them on North Rous Road, Goonellabah.

No pursuit was initiated.

A short time later, police observed the motorcycle on its side at the intersection of Hamley Drive and Phillip Street, Goonellabah, without a rider.

A 15-year-old boy approached police requesting urgent medical attention.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended the scene and treated the 15-year-old boy before he was taken to Lismore Base Hospital. He was later flown to Gold Coast University hospital in a critical condition.

Inquiries revealed the motorcycle had allegedly been stolen from Lismore on Sunday 10 June 2024.

A critical incident team from Tweed/Byron Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review.
