Croquet players from around the world have descended on Launceston this week for the World Croquet Federation PFC Mallets Golf Croquet World Teams Championship.
Teams from New Zealand, Australia, Egypt, England, USA, Ireland, South Africa and Spain will compete at Launceston's Northern Tasmanian Croquet Centre.
Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, welcomed the players and said that the Tasmanian Government was proud to support the event.
"We welcome all the international competitors who have travelled to Tasmania for the Golf Croquet World Teams Championship," Minister Duigan said.
"There are now 11 croquet clubs in Tasmania, with more than 1,000 members, which shows just how popular the sport has become in our State.
"Events such as the Golf Croquet World Teams Championship not only draw visitors to Tasmania, but they encourage them to venture out and see what else our State has to offer."
The Tasmanian Government has supported the Gold Croquet World Teams Championship with $5,000 in funding through the Event Tasmania Champion Grant Program.
The Championship will be held from 17 to 23 February 2025.
