Cross Border Twig: Art, Music & Firelight Unite

Swan Hill Rural City Council, Swan Hill Town Hall Performing Arts Centre, Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery, and The ACRE Project are excited to bring you A Cross Border Twig—a magical night of music, art, performances, and warm conversations by the fire.

TWIG, an artist-in-residence program on farms, has been running for 13 years, with farmers across the region generously hosting artists to create works inspired by the land. In response to the disconnect caused by the 2020/21 Covid-19 lockdowns, The Borders Project was launched to reconnect artists living on either side of the Dhungala (Murray River).

Set along the banks of the Marraboor River on Friday, 11 April 2025, this special event brings together artists featured in both these innovative projects and invites you to step into a world where art and nature come together.

Council's Director of Community and Cultural Services, Bruce Myers, says the night will be filled with creativity and community spirit.

"The fire's glow will light up a unique experience, featuring live music, sculptures, poetry, dance, and more—all under the stars," Mr Myers said.

Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery Director, Ian Tully, says the event explores the idea of borders—whether real or imagined—through amazing performances and artwork.

Featured artists include Adrian Sherriff (multi-instrumentalist, Australian Art Orchestra), Kristian Rule (award-winning film composer), Tanya George (vocal looping artist), Carolyn Bock (film, TV, and theatre actor), Peter Fraser (site-specific dancer), Linda Luke (choreographer and director), Rhae Kendrigan (socially engaged artist), and Suzanne Connelly - Kildomitis (Wiradjuri woman, educator, and ceramic artist), among others.

"With talented artists and musicians from both sides of the river, A Cross Border Twig is about breaking boundaries and seeing the world in new ways through sound, movement, and creativity," Mr Tully said.

"It's more than just an event, A Cross Border Twig is a chance to connect, be inspired, and experience art in a whole new way," he added.
