The Tour of the Tropics (T0TT) cycling event will return to Cairns for the next three years following a $75,000 funding agreement with Council.
The multistage and multigrade road cycling event has been held in the Cairns region since 2018 by the Tour of the Tropics Limited.
Under the agreement, the race will be held in the region through to 2023.
This year's event is scheduled to be held over three-days from 30 July to 1 August and is part of the AusCyling National Road Series, Australia's premier elite level domestic road cycling race series.
Included in the schedule are scratch races in Millaa Millaa and Gordonvale, and a criterium race at the Cairns Esplanade.
In addition to the competition, the annual Ride for Isabel event will form part of the ToTT event this year.
The 2021 Ride for Isabel will be a Gran Fondo event and will take place on 25 August over a course between Yarrabah and Gordonvale offering participants a choice of four ride distances between 30 kilometres and 120 kilometres.
To be organised by the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation, funds raised to be used to support neonatal babies at the Cairns Hospital.
