- Sod-turning ceremony signals the start of community and youth centre construction
- WA Government and Lotterywest grants of $10.9 million made the project possible
- Construction due for completion in December 2026
Work will soon begin on the Dalyellup multipurpose community and youth centre project in what will become a valuable local asset made possible by a $9 million investment by the Western Australian Government.
This funding includes a Lotterywest grant of $1.9 million and a $2.9 million contribution from the Shire of Capel. Construction was kicked off with a sod-turning ceremony on the site.
The project features:
- a multifunctional library and technology hub;
- a youth space including a digital hub space and media facilities;
- small performance spaces;
- activity and business start-up rooms; and
- a senior citizens club space.
The community and youth centre will provide significant social and economic benefits to residents, as well as supporting the regional economy by creating about 25 full-time construction jobs.
The $13.86 million project, due for completion in December 2026, forms the second stage of a wider Dalyellup District Centre development that includes other community facilities such as a skate park.
An unprecedented total of $300 million has been invested in sport and community infrastructure.
Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:
"The benefits to the local community from this facility are enormous, providing multiple spaces for people to explore their creativity and learn new skills.
"When finished, the development will become an important facility for local residents of all ages to meet, create and take part in a wide range of community activities.
"The Government is proud to support this worthwhile project by investing in the development of better community facilities for the people of Dalyellup for the future."
Comments attributed to Bunbury MLA Don Punch:
"The construction of the Dalyellup multipurpose community and youth centre will be a major boost to the region's economy, providing employment opportunities and generating extra business for local suppliers.
"There is a strong sense of community in Dalyellup and this is a great way to support the community through access to services, meeting spaces as well as a vibrant and engaging tech hub for youth."
