The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Pam Damoff, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Consular Affairs), will travel to Costa Rica from July 24 to July 26, 2024, for an official consular relations and bilateral visit.

During the trip, she will engage with government officials and regional and international partners on several shared global priorities, such as irregular migration and refugees, security, human rights, arbitrary detention in state-to-state relations and gender equality. Two of the government officials she will meet are Lydia María Peralta Cordero, Costa Rica's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Angie Cruickshank, Ombudsperson of Costa Rica.

Parliamentary Secretary Damoff will also meet with representatives of non-governmental organizations, local authorities and Canadian expatriates to discuss key initiatives in high-tourism areas of Costa Rica. These include collaboration to enhance the safety and security of Canadians when they travel or reside there, such as supporting victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
