Dangerous driving and assault occasioning bodily harm at Ipswich

Police have charged a 27-year-old man with nine serious offences after he allegedly drove a silver SUV dangerously through the Ipswich District.

It will be alleged around 8.30am Saturday (June 5) he assaulted a woman traveling in the same vehicle on Powells Road in Yamanto and proceeded to drive dangerously along Ipswich Boonah Road in Purga.

Police will further allege he failed to stop for police when they activated lights and sirens and began overtaking other vehicles on double white lines at high speed.

Multiple drivers were forced to take evasive action, as the car was alleged to have been driven through red lights and on the wrong side of the road.

It will also be alleged the man used a phone to film police while he was driving.

The SUV was tracked until it eventually stopped outside Ipswich Police Station where he was arrested without further incident. A search of the man by officers also uncovered a quantity of dangerous drugs.

He has since been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, evasion offence, assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence), contravention of a domestic violence order, authority required to possess explosives (ammunition), breach of bail, failure to appear in accordance with undertaking, use of mobile phone (driving) and possessing dangerous drugs (cocaine).

The 27-year-old Slacks Creek man is expected to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning.

Anyone with vision or further information about the alleged incidents are urged to contact police.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic and family violence, you should report it to police.
