Officers from the Gold Coast district have arrested a man following a call to assist from New South Wales Police yesterday, January 25.
It will be alleged that at about 5:50pm the call for assistance was made after a Blue Holden Commodore sedan was observed driving at high speed on the Pacific Motorway at Cudgera Creek, New South Wales by the highway patrol about 10 minutes prior.
Attempts were made by New South Wales Police to intercept the vehicle; however, when he allegedly failed to pull over and continued to drive away at high speed, road spikes, or tyre deflation devices, were successfully deployed by New South Wales Police near the border town of Chinderah. The vehicle continued towards Queensland where it started to show signs of tyre damage.
After being notified, Queensland Police have continued following the vehicle and eventually - due to significant damage from the earlier tyre deflation deployment - the vehicle has been stopped on Cowell Road, Burleigh Heads, where three people, including the driver, an 18-year-old man, and passengers, a 17-year-old boy, an 18-year-old woman and a further 18-year-old man were taken into custody.
The passengers were released and the driver was charged, had his bail denied and is to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on the 27th of January 2025 charged with one count each of Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evasion offence, wilful damage, receiving tainted property and fraud.
He was also charged with a number of interstate offences by New South Wales Police and will appear in a local court at a future date.
No one was injured as a result of the incident and investigators are seeking anyone with dashcam or footage of the incident to contact Police.
