Following reports from the local community, a large gumtree in an advanced state of decay is scheduled to be removed from Banjo Paterson Park in Jindabyne between Monday 11 November and Wednesday 13 November 2024.

This severely damaged tree is located close to the park's playground, barbecues and public toilets, and poses serious risks to public safety if left in place.

An independent arborist's report has identified significant additional damage to the already-weakened eucalypt, following the most recent period of high winds. The expert's report concluded that there is no prospect of recovery or rehabilitation for the compromised tree, and that it should be removed as soon as possible.

Specialist contractors will be on-site from Monday 11 November 2024 to begin removal works, with the area around the worksite closed to the public until work is complete on Wednesday 13 November 2024, weather permitting.

Park users are requested to keep clear of the worksite and adhere to the direction of signage and staff while work is underway.

Council will replace the removed eucalyptus globulus subsp. Bicostata, once a suitable location within the park and replacement tree species is identified.

We thank the community for their understanding during the upcoming removal.
