Danjera Dam Reopens For Spring

Day trippers to Danjera Dam can now enjoy upgraded facilities at the popular picnic and recreation area this spring.

Thanks to the Australian Government's Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant Program, Danjera Dam in Yalwal has undergone a number of improvements including bridge and road access upgrades, a new visitor carpark, boat trailer parking, new picnic shelters and improvements to the existing boat ramp.

Rob Horner, Executive Manager, Shoalhaven Water, said the upgrades would make it easier for people to both access the dam and take advantage of all the recreational activities the area has to offer as we head into warmer weather.

"Those who love the great outdoors can once again relax, bushwalk, swim, canoe and fish at the recreation area these holidays," said Mr Horner.

"Surrounded by wildlife and unspoiled bushland, the dam is just a half hour drive from Nowra, where locals and visitors can feel like they're on holidays for the day," he said

"The upgrade works are a fantastic investment in the liveability of the region and provide an economic injection as tourists flock to the area."

The completed works include:

  • widening of the access road
  • landscaping
  • three new picnic shelters with seating
  • new car and boat trailer parking areas
  • improvement of existing boat launching access road
  • new signage

Funding of $1.4 M was provided by the National Emergency Management Agency's Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant Program, which is administered by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. Shoalhaven Water also contributed $1.4 M.

Mr Horner reminded the community that Danjera Dam is not a camping area and is only ever available for day visitors. No petrol-powered motor boats are allowed.
