The City of Hobart is proud to welcome the return of the highly anticipated City of Hobart Winter Feast, a key feature of this year's Dark Mofo festival.
Running from June 13-16 and June 20-23, the Winter Feast is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the city, reinforcing Hobart's reputation as a premier winter destination.
Tourism plays a crucial role in Hobart's economy, with visitors contributing over $1 billion annually.
Events like the Winter Feast are pivotal in driving this economic activity, attracting tourists and locals alike to spend in the city.
This influx supports local businesses, from food and drink vendors to retail and hospitality sectors, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.
Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said winter tourism was a big part of the capital's economy.
"The Winter Feast is more than just a celebration of food and culture; it is a vital economic driver for our city," Cr Reynolds said.
"By attracting thousands of visitors, it supports local businesses and creates employment opportunities.
"This event aligns perfectly with our winter campaign, City of Warm Hearts and Cool Adventures, which encourages people to explore and enjoy Hobart during the cooler months."
The Winter Feast will feature 75 stallholders, including 25 newcomers from across Tasmania, showcasing the best of local produce and culinary creativity.
Visitors will be treated to savory delights such as spit roast pork buns and neo-Nepalese goat curry, as well as indulgent sweets like milk and honey doughnuts and giant warm cookies.
The drinks menu includes exciting new offerings such as mulled wine, smoked beetroot vodka, and cloudy apple cider.
City Economy Portfolio Chair Alderman Louise Bloomfield said the Feast had a broad positive impact on the community.
"The economic benefits of the Winter Feast extend far beyond the event itself," Ald Bloomfield said.
"Financial data from the 2023 event estimates a $54 million festival economic impact on local hospitality and tourism organisations from both local and interstate guests.
"Over 46,000 tickets were sold to the Winter Feast in 2023.
"Over the past 12 months, the City of Hobart has supported over 20 events, all contributing to our vibrant local economy.
"The Winter Feast showcases our city's culinary talent and innovation, drawing visitors who contribute significantly to our economic health.
"With more fantastic events like the Festival of Voices coming up, Hobart continues to thrive as a dynamic and welcoming city."
The highlight of this year's Winter Feast is a collaboration between guest chef Vaughan Mabee, executive chef at Amisfield in Aotearoa/New Zealand, and Vince Trim, executive chef at Mona's Heavy Metal Kitchen, promising an unforgettable culinary experience.
