City of Darwin invites parents, carers, babies and children to attend a special Harmony Day celebration at the Malak Community Centre tomorrow, Thursday 20 March 2025, as part of the Fun Bus program.
The Harmony Day event is part of Harmony Week which celebrates diversity, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the expanded Fun Bus event offered a great opportunity to celebrate Darwin's multiculturalism.
"We are very proud that people from more than 60 nationalities and 70 different ethnic backgrounds call Darwin home, making us one of the most multicultural cities in Australia," Mr Vatskalis said.
"The Harmony Day event at the Fun Bus is a great chance to come together and celebrate people from all different backgrounds and cultures.
"There will be a range of fun activities to enjoy, including flower weaving, an African drumming workshop, a didgeridoo performance, arts and craft activities and a special performance from the Baby Ballerinas.
"We encourage everyone to wear orange or traditional clothing and immerse themselves in a day of cultural festivities," he said.
Harmony Week runs from 15 to 21 March every year and encourages everyone to experience, explore and appreciate cultural, religious and linguistic diversity.
City of Darwin's Harmony Day event will take place from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Malak Community Centre, 13 Malak Crescent, Malak.
The event has been made possible with support from Early Childhood Australia and Territory Child Care Group Inc.
City of Darwin's Fun Bus is a mobile playgroup that provides a free, fun and informal space for parents, carers, babies and children aged 0 to 5 years to connect in a relaxed, friendly environment.
The Fun Bus operates weekdays between 9:30 am and 11:30 am at different locations throughout the municipality of Darwin.
