Joint Statement Providing action, certainty, and security for Territorians: The future of Darwin Port
5 April 2025
The Finocchiaro CLP Government has welcomed the announcement that a future Dutton Coalition Government would seek to end the uncertainty and provide security for the future of Darwin Port.
Acting Chief Minister Gerard Maley said this was good news for Territorians, and the ball was now in the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's court to detail his plans.
"We've seen strong leadership from Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, and the Coalition, backed by CLP candidates Lisa Bayliss for Solomon and Lisa Siebert for Lingiari, in Darwin today.
"This is in contrast to the uncertainty created over the Darwin Port by Labor's Luke Gosling and the Prime Minister.
"Prime Minister Albanese has claimed he'll directly intervene but has provided no details.
"Territorians need certainty, not vague statements.
"Should Australians elect a Dutton Coalition Government, we will work with them to ensure Darwin Port is managed in the best interests of Territorians and the nation."
Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure Bill Yan said the announcement showed that the Coalition was listening to Territorians.
"This is an issue we have been working on in good faith with the Commonwealth Government since late last year, and yet we still don't know what their plans are," Bill Yan said.
"It took Peter Dutton, Shadow Defence Minister Andrew Hastie and Lisa Bayliss to provide the certainty and security to Darwin Port.
"At every stage of this, the CLP have been fighting for Territorians and that will continue under a Dutton Coalition in Canberra."
