Darwin Residents Invited to Help Green City

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is calling for community members to express their interest in joining the Tree Advisory Committee to help make Darwin a cool, clean and green city.

Members of the Tree Advisory Committee advise Council on relevant policies, programs and strategies to support City of Darwin's Greening Strategy.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis encouraged anyone with a background in arboriculture, botany, natural resource management or similar to apply.

"Members of the Tree Advisory Committee support City of Darwin in delivering our Greening Strategy, which aims to make Darwin a cool, clean and green city and ensure we maintain and grow our urban forest," Mr Vatskalis said.

"The Greening Strategy provides a framework for enhancing, preserving and protecting the natural environment of Darwin and aims to create a greener future for all.

"The Tree Advisory Committee acts in an advisory capacity and provides recommendations to advocate, inform and support City of Darwin's greening initiatives," he said.

Members of the Tree Advisory Committee are responsible for reviewing and monitoring the implementation of City of Darwin's Greening Strategy and contributing to the 'Establishing a Resilient Urban Forest for Darwin' plan.

They will also contribute to the 'Preferred Trees for Darwin' and 'Trees Not Recommended to be Planted' registers, as well as making recommendations on suitable tree species for replanting and best practice in re-establishing trees in the municipality.

There are up to two community member roles available on the Tree Advisory Committee, with terms running from May 2025 until May 2027.

All community member positions are voluntary, and the Committee meets a minimum of four times a year.

Nominations are open now and close at 5pm on Wednesday 9 April 2025.
