Tamworth Regional Gallery is thrilled to confirm that original costumes from the hit Australian film The Dressmaker will be on display as part of a touring exhibition from Saturday 22 May to Sunday 25 July, 2021.
Presented in partnership with the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) and FilmArt Media, the exhibition celebrates the artistry of the film's sumptuous designs, as well as the transformational power of fashion. Audiences will be able to go 'behind the seams' of a diverse range of elegant vintage fashion, created by award-winning designer and exhibition curator Marion Boyce, and worn by Hollywood stars and Aussie acting talent, including Kate Winslet, Liam Hemsworth, Hugo Weaving, Sarah Snook, Judy Davis and Rebecca Gibney.
Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, produced by Sue Maslin and based on the novel by Rosalie Ham, the film's vision was brought to life in 2015 by an extraordinary creative team of Australian talents.
"The Gallery has been working for some time with the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia to bring this fabulous exhibition to the Tamworth region, and we couldn't be more excited to confirm the exhibition dates today," said Bridget Guthrie, Director at Tamworth Regional Gallery.
The tour will also stop in Winton and Toowoomba, making Tamworth the exhibition's only New South Wales venue.
"We anticipate it will draw interest from visitors from right around the state, fitting perfectly with our vision to make the arts and culture accessible to all," said Ms Guthrie.
"And best of all, entry will be free as with all of our exhibitions."
The Dressmaker Costume Exhibition is supported by the federal Government's National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program (managed by the Office for the Arts, at the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications). The program aims to increase touring by Australian national collecting institutions so that Australian and overseas cultural material is accessible to all Australians, especially regional communities. It also aims to promote international awareness of Australia's cultural heritage through overseas tours.
