The Tasmanian Government is building safer and more efficient roads all around our great State as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.
The latest stage of the Macquarie and Davey Streets Bus Improvements project have now been completed, making travel safer and more convenient for bus passengers and cyclists on Davey Street.
Premier, Jeremy Rockliff, said the project continued the Tasmanian Liberal Government's roll-out of safer and more reliable transport options between Hobart's CBD and the growing southern suburbs under the Southern Projects program.
"People waiting for buses at stops 2 and 3 on Davey Street now have the improved protection of two larger, more modern bus shelters," the Premier said.
"Cyclists on Davey Street can stay safely separated from traffic in a new dedicated cycling lane on the uphill section between Sandy Bay Road and Barrack Street.
"The works, which started in late July, followed the April implementation of an extended peak period Macquarie Street clearway.
"Work also started recently on the Transit Lane Connector - creating an extra lane at the bottom of the Southern Outlet between Davey and Macquarie Streets.
"All of these improvements will have immediate benefits and will also prepare the way for construction of the T3 transit lane on the Southern Outlet from Olinda Grove to Macquarie Street.
"The transit lane, along with two already completed park and ride facilities in Kingborough and additional bus services, will create attractive alternatives to private car use and improve the daily commute to and from Hobart's CBD," he said.
