The development of new planning controls affecting a proposed master planned residential community at Kolodong is underway, with MidCoast Council inviting community feedback on the Draft Development Control Plan (DCP) this month.
The DCP will be on exhibition from tomorrow, Wednesday 25 August, and provides detailed planning and design guidelines for the proposed Kolodong Precinct development.
Following community consultation, MidCoast Council approved the rezoning of the site which was then gazetted by the State on 3 April 2020. The precinct covers approximately 75Ha of land between Taree and Wingham that had been identified as suitable for future urban growth, in the 1990s.
The Precinct Plan indicates areas of public open space, a wildlife corridor, pedestrian and cycle paths as well as residential, community and commercial inclusions.
"When we consulted with the community on the rezoning there was a clear, common concern about existing traffic congestion along Kolodong Road, particularly before school starts and when it finishes," explained Gerard Tuckerman, Council's Acting Manager of Land Use Planning.
"Among other planning controls, the DCP also includes necessary intersection upgrades to assist with traffic flow in the area."
Feedback is welcome and can be made online via the submission form, or via email or mail following the directions on the website and hard copy material.
Feedback can be provided from Wednesday 25 August to Friday 1 October.
