Deadline Approaching For 2024 Community Gift Program

The deadline for the Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC (LLNS) 2024 Community Gift Program is approaching. Organizations that are interested in applying must submit their application by midnight on Monday, Aug. 19.

The LLNS Community Gift Program, established in 2008, provides annual awards to support nonprofit organizations addressing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) education, community service and philanthropic needs in local and surrounding communities.

The LLNS Board of Governors has authorized $220,000 to nonprofit California educational institutions. Gifts will be awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to $15,000. IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) organizations and government agencies serving Alameda, Contra Costa and San Joaquin counties are eligible to apply.

In 2023, the Community Gift Program received 94 applications for grants and 46 applications were selected for awards. The majority of which served children in the Tri-Valley area, Contra Costa and San Joaquin counties, with a focus on literacy, cultural arts and science, technology, engineering and math education. Other recipients focus their charitable efforts toward children, families, senior citizens and individuals in need of assistance.

All organizations interested in applying to the LLNS Community Gift Program must t be sustainable, financially viable and accountable for spending and program results. Charity organizations must be registered as "current" with the State Attorney General's Registry of Charitable Trusts. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their proposal by mid-November.

LLNS manages LLNL for the Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration. LLNS is comprised of Bechtel, the largest project management contractor in the United States; the University of California, the world's largest public research institution; and BWXT Government Group, Inc. and Amentum, the top two DOE nuclear facilities contractors.
