Deal Secures After-Hours Primary Care for North Hobart

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has stepped up to ensure a local after-hours GP service is available for Tasmanians seeking health care in Hobart's northern suburbs.

From 1 June 2024, the Doctors After Hours GP practice, adjacent to Amiens GP practice, in Derwent Park will provide after-hours GP coverage between 5pm-10pm Monday to Friday, and 9am- 10pm over the weekend.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said this is another example of the Tasmanian Liberal Government stepping in to ensure Tasmanians have access to primary care when they need it.

"We understand how important having access to an after-hours GP service is for people in Hobart's northern suburbs, and we have acted quickly to secure this positive outcome," Minister Barnett said.

"This will ensure the community is not left without this important primary health service when the existing clinic closes its doors at the end of May.

"It follows similar efforts to save GP practices at St Marys, Bridgewater and East Devonport, and once again demonstrates our commitment to ensure Tasmanians have access to GP services - despite the repeated failures of the Federal Labor Government.

"It's also further evidence of the demand for more Urgent Care Clinics in Tasmania.

"We will continue to press our case to get our fair share of Urgent Care Clinics, as Tasmanians deserve."
