We're celebrating 10 years of partnering with Ability Works to provide work for people living with a disability and from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The partnership, which started with Transurban outsourcing mail sorting to Ability Works, has grown to include sorting and processing over 30,000 Linkt tags a month and scanning up to 400 items of mail a day.
Using a tailored approach, Ability Works breaks down the elements of a task to suit the skills of the people it employs, many of whom have different levels of cognitive and physical abilities.
The benefits of this tailored approach are twofold - Ability Works provides much-needed services for clients like Transurban, and provide people living with a disability more opportunities to work and socialise.
With work environments becoming increasingly automated, Ability Works has adapted to meet the needs of people with disabilities and to continue providing employment opportunities which may not be available in a mainstream work environment.
The business has even developed a purpose-built robotic arm that digitally scans and sorts each Linkt tag. The robot technology allows vision impaired employees and people with intellectual disabilities to undertake tag processing tasks that they previously hadn't been able to carry out, opening up even more work opportunities.
