The City of Perth Council met on Tuesday December 10. The following decisions were made:
Back to the Future for Hay Street
Council last night approved the conversion of Hay Street between William and Elder streets from one-way to two-way, the last remaining one-way street in central Perth.
The City has successfully converted streets to two-way operation, many of which supported major developments such as Elizabeth Quay and Perth City Link to proceed. The program has also enabled the Public Transport Authority to expand their CAT bus services.
The City recognised the CBD's old one-way street system was having a negative impact on pedestrian amenity and the local economy and it is envisaged the re-establishment of two-way streets will create destinations, rather than fast-moving routes for vehicles passing through.
The Hay Street - William to Elder Streetscape Revitalisation project has a dual focus of improving the public realm to encourage investment and activation, while also improving the road network.
Detailed design for the project will now commence. The Final Concept Plan is available here on P15.
Sponsorship and Grant Program
The City's 2025/26 Sponsorship and Grant program was also endorsed at last night's meeting. The Budget for the 2025/26 program is $5.61 million in cash and in-kind support.
The City offers a suite of sponsorships and grants to assist in achieving outcomes that benefit residents, rate payers and visitors to Perth, supporting the City's aspiration to be a liveable, sustainable, and prosperous city.
The Program is available for support include sponsorship for Major Events and Festivals, Events, Art & Culture and Economic Development.
Grant programs include Residential Energy Upgrades, Business Relocation, Heritage Conservation, Business Improvement, Local Activation, Community Insurance, Venue Support and Residential Sustainabilty Assessments.
Electors General Meeting
The Electors General Meeting will be held at 5pm on Tuesday 28 January, 2025 at Council House.
