Councillors considered items outlined in the August Agenda on Tuesday, discussing topics such as management of the Slim Dusty Centre, a review of Crescent Head engagement and a discussion guide to start engagements in creating a Sustainability and Resilience Strategy.

Kempsey Shire Council is sharing the decisions coming out of the August Ordinary Meeting of Council.

Slim Dusty Centre

Council agreed to enter into an agreement with Slim Dusty Foundation Limited for Council to permanently own and operate the Slim Dusty Centre, including the Slim Dusty Museum.

Crescent Head engagement

Council approved an engagement and design review methodology for the Crescent Head foreshore project over the next 24 months with an estimated cost of up to $150,000.

Sustainability and Resilience Strategy - Discussion Guide

Council approved a Sustainability and Resilience Strategy Discussion Guide to facilitate community engagement on a Strategy that aims to set a clear direction and pathway to improving local sustainability and resilience. The discussion guide will be available via Your Say Macleay.

Local Roads Conference Communique

A directive that calls on the NSW Government to increase funding for maintenance and road safety improvements, and adjustment of tender requirements for repair and recovery works following natural disasters was endorsed.

Short Term Rental Accommodation Framework

Council noted the State led framework on Short Term Rental Accommodation that will begin on 1 November 2021. The NSW Government has created a framework to manage the digital share economy.

Quarterly and Year End Reports

Council noted the provisional financial operating result for the year ended 30 June 2021, the progress achieved in delivering the 2020-21 Operational Plan, the Financial Sustainability Program status report, the Key Performance Indicators report and the Grants Status Summary.

Other outcomes
  • Council authorised the General Manager to organise the installation of wildlife fencing at Kempsey Airport following funding from the Federal Government.
  • Council agreed to submit a Planning Proposal to permit land located at on Macleay Valley Way South Kempsey to be used as a highway service centre
  • Council adopted Key Performance Indicators for the 2021-22 financial year.
  • Council noted the progress achieved in the six-monthly report from January to June 2021 on the Delivery Program 2017-2021.
