The delegation of Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Russian Federation headed by Dauren Abaev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, visited Tomsk State University on April 12. The delegation learned about the educational programs at the university and the university's capabilities and discussed the prospects of cooperation with the TSU administration.
The meeting at Tomsk State University began with discussing the prospects of cooperation between TSU and Kazakhstan. TSU President Georgiy Mayer moderated the meeting.
"I am sincerely happy to be here today, in one of the oldest universities-Tomsk State University. Kazakhstan is ranked first in the number of international students coming to study in Russia. I would like to note that TSU is especially popular among students from Kazakhstan, along with universities in Moscow," said Dauren Abaev.
Artyom Rykun, TSU Vice-Rector for International Affairs, presented to the delegation information about Tomsk State University in international rankings and opportunities for international students.
"There are more than 16,000 students, while 3,650 are international students from 80 countries," said Artyom Rykun. "And, of course, students from Kazakhstan are the largest community. We have huge historical ties with Kazakhstan, and we continue to develop them-we have signed about 30 various agreements in different areas with universities of Kazakhstan."
Evgeny Lukov, TSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, provided details on TSU's pilot project to improve the higher education system and the educational programs at the university. Evgeny Pavlov, head of Student Enrollment Division, reported on attracting applicants from Kazakhstan to TSU and University of Tomsk.
Mikhail Shepel, director of the Interregional Center of Non-degree Professional Education and Employment Support, spoke about TSU's participation in the federal project Employment Promotion. The university educated about 200,000 people during the period of its participation in this federal project, and 183,000 of them were successfully employed. In addition, Mikhail Shepel touched on the topic of lifelong learning, when a person continues to study throughout their life.
Dauren Abaev delivered an open lecture after the meeting in the large conference hall of the TSU Research Library. He told the audience about the main directions of domestic and foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and shared his vision for international cooperation. At the end of the meeting, His Excellency the Ambassador answered questions.
Tomsk State University is actively cooperating with universities in Kazakhstan. TSU and universities in the Republic of Kazakhstan engage in student exchange programs, double-degree programs, and joint scientific activities in various areas.
