Tasmania's advanced manufacturing sector has been strengthened following the completion of a four-year Government plan focused on job creation, industry sustainability and supporting the State's economy.
Premier and Minister for Trade and Major Investment, Jeremy Rockliff, said all 20 actions in our Government's Advanced Manufacturing Action Plan 2024 have now been delivered across four priority areas.
"We have delivered great progress in training, improving productivity and global competitiveness, and maximising Tasmanian businesses' opportunities to tender for major projects," Premier Rockliff said.
"Through the $10.4 million plan, we delivered six grant programs, awarding 141 grants to local manufacturers, supporting Tasmanian jobs and helping to keep our economy strong.
"We engaged with 900 Tasmanian businesses over the plan's four-year period, and activity under the plan was instrumental in supporting the sector through the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, Premier Rockliff released the next iteration of the plan - the Advanced Manufacturing Action Plan 2028 - in October.
"The new plan will build on our success by backing in industry, supporting Tasmanian jobs and keeping the economy strong," Premier Rockliff said.
"Tasmanian manufacturers make world-class products, from boats to food and drink, and mining equipment, that are exported to buyers all over the world who recognise the Tasmanian quality.
"With shifting global forces changing the landscape for our manufacturers, the Tasmanian Government recognises the need to support our industry to adapt and continue to thrive.
"Our commitment to supporting the critical advanced manufacturing sector, it's people, productivity and market success, remains unwavering.
"Manufacturers employ nearly 20,000 Tasmanians and the industry supports another 33,000 Tasmanian jobs through their supply chains and in their local communities.
"Manufacturing is Tasmania's sixth-largest industry sector, contributing over $2 billion to Tasmania's gross state product."
