The Albanese Labor Government continues to boost the liveability of communities across Pearce, with federal funding unlocking a pipeline of road and community infrastructure projects.
Federal Minister for Regional Development and Local Government, Kristy McBain MP, joined Member for Pearce, Tracey Roberts MP today to inspect the progress of projects and to discuss the region's priorities.
The Government is investing $30 million towards the construction of the Alkimos Aquatic and Recreation Centre - something the community have long called for.
It is set to feature indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gym and fitness facilities, sports courts, a crèche, café, change rooms and a car park - with detailed designs currently being finalised.
As part of our commitment to improve the safety of local roads, the City of Wanneroo will receive $17 million in Roads to Recovery funding over the next five years - a boost of over $7.3 million thanks to the Albanese Government.
This will pave the way for future road safety upgrades, and build on projects already delivered and fully funded by the Albanese Government - such as surface and curb improvements on Badgerup Road at Gnangara, which received $715,000.
Through Phase 4 of the Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program, the City of Wanneroo is receiving over $3.1 million for local priority projects.
This includes over $1.9 million for a new sports amenity building at Heath Park, which will include player changerooms, kitchen and kiosk facilities, public toilets and a multipurpose room.
With sport growing in Eglinton and across Pearce, this will ensure that players using the ovals have access to purpose-built facilities - with construction recently commencing and due for completion mid next year.
Work is currently underway on road surface safety upgrades on Avery Street, Warman Street and Turnbull Road in Neerabup - due for completion mid-2025, and made possible by $1.1 million from the Albanese Government.
With Hartman Drive one of Madeley's busiest roads, the Albanese Government is also investing $1.5 million towards a new shared pathway between Ocean Reef Road and Gnangara Road.
This will improve road safety, providing more space for cyclists and pedestrians - improving traffic flow and helping to ease congestion during peak times.
Nationally, the Albanese Government is delivering significant funding increases to support local councils to progress their priority projects.
The Roads to Recovery program is progressively increasing from $500 million to $1 billion per year, the Road Black Spot Program is increasing to $150 million per year, and the new $200 million per year Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program opened on 1 July 2024.
