Delivering New Health Hub At TasTAFE's Alanvale Campus

Tasmanian Government

Learners at TasTAFE's Alanvale Campus are set to benefit from brand new facilities, with works now well underway to deliver a new health training hub and a new learner services hub.

Fulfilling a $5 million commitment at the 2021 election, the construction of the health training hub will deliver training with a core focus on mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and youth work.

Importantly, the programs in the facility will be co-designed with the sector and incorporate modern technology, such as virtual classrooms and online learning, in addition to campus-based and workplace learning delivery.

Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, said the new health hub would provide essential training for crucial services in the community.

"A TasTAFE education is about delivering skills for the jobs we need. There is no greater need than the workforce that cares for our loved ones," Minister Ellis said.

"This new health hub will be the beating heart of the Alanvale campus. It will secure Tasmania's community health workforce into the future by working closely with industry and providing the training they are telling us is needed.

"Through our government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we're training up a job-ready generation of Tasmanians with the skills they need to succeed," he said.

Construction has also commenced on a new taypani Learner Hub, which follows on from the completion of the first hub of its kind at TasTAFE's Clarence campus last year.

The taypani Learner Hubs are designed to create a "one-stop-shop" for learners at TasTAFE and deliver a more engaging and supportive on-campus experience.

"We want to make it as easy as possible for our learners to access services and support, and the taypani Learner Hubs we are rolling out statewide are key in achieving that", Minister Ellis said.

"These new facilities are supporting the Government's reforms and TasTAFE's 10-year strategic plan to ensure the learner at the centre of their training.

"We are so excited to deliver these new facilities for our TasTAFE learners, which will be a huge step forward and add another range of new training products that our community is crying out for."

Services at the Learner Hub will include the access to laptop computers and other technology on loan, connections with support services, and advanced virtual reality simulation environments.
