Delivering Safer Roads Across Northern Victoria

VIC Premier

Thousands of Northern Victorian road users now have a safer and more reliable journey thanks to vital maintenance works as part of the Andrews Labor Government's annual road maintenance blitz.

At Strathallan, a $1.75 million project to rebuild a two-kilometre stretch of the Northern Highway is now complete with crews creating a smoother, more durable road.

The Northern Highway caters to more than 5,500 vehicles per day, serving as a critical freight route between Bendigo and Echuca, along with thousands of tourists travelling to the Echuca-Moama area yearly for holidays.

Further north-east, works are also set to begin this month on a $500,000 maintenance blitz project in Kerang - estimated for completion in June, weather permitting.

Crews will rebuild a 700-metre stretch of Airport Road, increasing durability for the high volumes of freight drivers carrying locally produced fruit and vegetables and livestock that pass through the area every day.

Continuing the investment in northern Victoria, more than $80 million in road maintenance is currently being delivered this maintenance season, supporting jobs on the ground and throughout the supply chain.

Targeting around 515 kilometres of road, the region's drivers already experiencing smoother, safer journeys on key regional routes, including the McIvor Highway at Junortoun and Lancefield-Tooborac Road at Tooborac while significant safety upgrades are underway on the Midland Highway between Shepparton and Cosgrove South.

Aiming to reduce road trauma across the state, these crews are busy delivering improvements, including road widening, the installation of flexible roadside safety barriers, new overtaking lanes and rumble strip line marking along Pine Lodge South Road and Kay Road.

The works will deliver a safer journey for the thousands of drivers who use this road each day.
