Are you concerned about your memory or worried that someone you know may have dementia? Dementia Australia is offering support in Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday region between 18 and 22 November.

It is estimated there around 82,270 people living with all forms of dementia in Queensland. Without a medical breakthrough this number is expected to increase to around 168,300 people living with dementia by 2054.

These Dementia Australia sessions are an opportunity for people living with dementia, their carers, family, and friends to attend free education to better understand dementia and to discuss the support and services Dementia Australia can provide. This session provides information for families and carers on how to access free dementia specific services including counselling, coaching, connecting with other carers, practical assistance, planned and emergency respite.

Understanding Dementia

This session provides an introduction to dementia including an overview of different types of dementia, diagnosis, planning ahead and how to support someone living with dementia.

Understanding Changes in Behaviour

This session provides an introduction to dementia and changes to the brain, effects on behaviour and the impacts of changed behaviour. It will introduce problem solving models, including strategies to minimise and respond to changed behaviour.

EDIE for Family Carers

This session enhances knowledge of dementia through virtual reality technology that allows participants to see the world through the eyes of a person living with dementia.

Worried About Your Memory?

This session provides information on memory and common changes that may occur with ageing. It provides strategies for improving memory, when to seek help about your concerns and services provided by Dementia Australia.

Creating a Dementia-Friendly Mackay

Are you passionate about creating a community where everyone is valued, understood, and supported? A dementia-friendly community is one where people living with dementia feel empowered, respected, and included in all aspects of life. Together, we can make Mackay a place where everyone can thrive.

Dementia Supports & Networking Session

This session will provide information about supports available in the dementia landscape. Local organisations will be invited to speak about what they are doing to support people living with dementia in their regions.

Carer Wellness Program

This session focuses on the health and wellbeing of those involved in caring for a person living with dementia, whether they live with you or elsewhere. Carers may include partners, family members and friends.

Grief, Loss and Dementia

This session provides an overview of the grief, loss and emotional impact of the changes caused by dementia.
