Demolition Begins for New Campaspe Aquatic Facility

Rochester District War Memorial Pool

Campaspe Shire Council will shortly begin demolition works to the Rochester District War Memorial Pool, marking the first step in a broader vision for a revitalised aquatic facility. Following extensive community consultation and feedback, in March of this year, Council committed to funding both the design of a new aquatic facility and the demolition of the current pool.

"We understand the community's connection to this space and whilst the demolition of the pool may be a sad event for some community members, it also signifies a new beginning for this beloved community space," said Mayor Amos.

"We have listened to Rochester residents, and the design of the new aquatic facility will reflect the community's vision for a modern, inclusive, and welcoming environment".

Council will soon finalise contracts for the demolition, with work expected to begin in mid-late September. Residents in the local vicinity have been notified by letter.

As an interim measure, once the demolition is completed, the area will be landscaped and reopened as a public space until further funding is secured for the construction of the new aquatic facility.

Mayor Amos said that Council is committed to minimising disruption during this process.

"While there will be some inconvenience during the demolition, we are working to ensure that safety and environmental considerations, such as dust suppression and noise control, are prioritised.

"We appreciate the public's patience and cooperation during this transition.

"This is the next step forward in our efforts to bring a new pool to Rochester," Mayor Amos added.

The entire demolition project, including landscaping, is scheduled to be completed by late December 2024, followed by maintenance period through to end of February while the grass establishes.
