The brand new Dendy Beach Pavilion is now officially open after a plaque unveiling from Bayside Mayor, Councillor Fiona Stitfold, along with Ryan Batchelor MLC, Life Saving Victoria and Brighton Life Saving Club members.
This much-anticipated community facility incorporates the Brighton Life Saving Club and a new café. The new building integrates environmentally sustainable features into the surrounding natural environment.
The new Brighton Life Saving Club provides vital facilities for lifesavers to respond to emergencies. The club's new facilities are designed to improve safety for beachgoers, and includes a multi-purpose training space, equipment storage, change rooms and public toilets.
Bayside Mayor, Councillor Fiona Stitfold said the facility will be cherished by locals and many thousands of visitors to Bayside.
"This stunning pavilion is a worthy addition to the famous shoreline and will no doubt feature in many of the countless photos taken here every day," said Cr Stitfold.
"This project would not have been possible without the commitment of Bayside Councillors over the three terms, plus the ongoing perseverance of many diligent Council officers to deliver this building for our community."
The pavilion also contains DDA accessible facilities including a lift from the top level down to the beach and a new accessible ramp from the upgraded car park down to the improved promenade.
The Bay Trail has also been upgraded, creating an entrance from Beach Road.
Council invested $10.6 million in the building, which was also supported by the Victorian Government ($1 million) and the Brighton Life Saving Club ($500,000).
