Dental Grads Boost 20,000 New Appointments

Tasmanian Government

A new cohort of dental graduates have launched their careers in Tasmania, boosting the State's oral health workforce and expanding access to public dental services.

As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, the Tasmanian Liberal Government committed $4 million to deliver 20,000 more dental appointments.

Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, said the eleven new dental graduates will play an important role in achieving our target.

"Our Government is serious about supporting good oral health for all Tasmanians, and the new graduates will help to provide additional appointments, ensuring those waiting for dental care can access it sooner," Minister Petrusma said.

"The eight graduate oral health therapists and three graduate dentists have all made the excellent decision to relocate to our beautiful State to begin their professional careers from interstate or overseas.

"Importantly, the new cohort will help to improve access to oral health services right across the State, with five to be based in the South, three in the North, and three in the North West.

"Whether it be emergency dental care, general dental care and denture clinics for adults, or dental care for children and adolescents, their work will be vital."

The new starters are being supported to begin their professional journeys through Oral Health Services Tasmania's Graduate Program, which provides structured clinical and professional training and support opportunities.
