Premier Mark McGowan has welcomed the appointment of Emily Roper as Director General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.
Ms Roper has been acting Director General since May 2021 and was previously Deputy Director General and Director Public Sector Reform at the Department.
The nationwide advertising and evaluation process, undertaken by the Public Sector Commission, concluded this week following the approval of the appointment by His Excellency the Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia.
The Department of the Premier and Cabinet has two key service delivery areas - the administration of executive government services and government policy management. The Department also plays a key role in managing the whole-of-government response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ms Roper brings significant public service experience to the role having worked in both State and Commonwealth governments. Her experience includes positions with the WA departments of Justice and Corrective Services, the Australian Attorney-General's Department and the Australian Embassy in Berlin.
Ms Roper holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in psychology from Murdoch University.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan
"I congratulate Ms Roper on her appointment.
"As Western Australia transitions to a new stage of pandemic management and re-engages with the world, Ms Roper's leadership and experience during the pandemic so far has been and will continue to be invaluable.
"She has significant experience in public administration and reform, and is well placed to lead the Department, provide evidenced-based policy advice to government and support Cabinet in undertaking its work for the people of Western Australia."
