Warm the heart to beat the chill.
As we head into autumn, we also head into school holidays and important religious events and dates. The colder weather seems to reflect the uncertainty in current world affairs, as we face circumnavigation by one superpower and a tariff wall by another. We also face a federal election on May 3.
During such uncertain times around us I believe it is important that we support each other in our own district. We can do this by supporting our local businesses and helping each other out, or by volunteering to one of our many community services.
Keep an eye out for our very first Emergency Preparedness Expo coming up at the start of May. The kids will love seeing all of the fire trucks, ambulances and inside police cars, plus the grown ups can learn what they can do to be ready for our next storm, flood or fire event. It's on the lawn in front of our fantastic Maryborough Railway Station on Sunday 4 May from 10am.
And a reminder that during difficult times our conduct with each other becomes even more important than during better times. I believe in being quick to praise and slow to criticise rather than the opposite - which seems to be encouraged by social media, feeding intolerance to differing points of view.
Of course, our AFL, netball, soccer and hockey seasons have just commenced - what a great opportunity to support our local district by either playing or supporting! And if you know someone who would like to go to a match and they don't drive, why not offer them a lift?
Go Talbot Hawks by the way!
