Deputy Sec. Campbell's New Zealand Visit

Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell travelled to New Zealand August 30 to co-chair the U.S.-New Zealand Strategic Dialogue, meet with senior government officials, and launch the inaugural Critical and Emerging Technology Dialogue.

On August 30, Deputy Secretary Campbell and New Zealand Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade Bede Corry co-hosted the 2024 U.S.-New Zealand Strategic Dialogue in Auckland, New Zealand. The two sides discussed the Indo-Pacific strategic environment, shared efforts to promote Pacific development, and economic, environmental, and scientific cooperation. Deputy Secretary Campbell also co-hosted the launch of the inaugural U.S.-New Zealand Critical and Emerging Technology Dialogue along with Secretary Corry. The two sides exchanged views and explored cooperation on critical technologies like AI and biotechnology and on the digital economy, including information and communication technologies (ICT).

During his visit to Auckland, Deputy Secretary Campbell also met with New Zealand 's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Winston Peters and Associate Minister of Defense Chris Penk, respectively, to discuss opportunities for deepening U.S.-New Zealand cooperation and exchange views on regional developments. Both sides reaffirmed their belief that strengthening the U.S.-New Zealand partnership is critical for peace, security, human rights, democracy, and regional stability.
