The designs of the new elevated Beckenham Train Station have been unveiled for the first time, showing a modern new facility and public open spaces.
The new station is being delivered as part of the major METRONET upgrades of the Armadale Train Line, with Beckenham one of the seven new train stations being built.
The upgrades are funded through the Byford Extension, Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal and Thornlie-Cockburn Link projects.
The upgrades will also see 13 level crossings removed and more than 5.5 kilometres of rail elevated, creating more than six hectares of new public open spaces.
The new Beckenham Station was an election commitment of the Albanese Federal Labor Government as part of the Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal project, with funding matched by the Western Australian Labor Government.
Incorporating valuable input from stakeholders and the community, the design images released today offer a glimpse into how the train station and surrounding area will be transformed as part of the Armadale Line upgrades.
The new elevated station will open onto a plaza precinct, providing space for recreation and increasing connectivity. It will feature four lifts, 90 parking bays, storage for 72 bicycles and CCTV coverage throughout the station area.
The proposed designs for the public space include activity zones near the stations, parkland with trees and lawn, areas for residents of all ages and abilities, activation spaces for community activities and events, public art and shared paths for walking, cycling and scootering.
A Development Application (DA) for Beckenham Station and public space has been lodged, with a public comment period set to commence on 28 September for two weeks. The community can then have their say on the DA at the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage website.
