- Construction to kick off in November 2019
- Another key McGowan Government election commitment on track
New classrooms and revitalised spaces are a step closer for students at Forrestfield's Darling Range Sports College, with the first designs for a major upgrade released today.
The schematic designs for the $10 million State Government-funded project feature the concepts for new and upgraded classrooms and facilities.
Facilities being considered for the upgrade include a new materials technology building, new food building with commercial kitchen and working café, refurbished STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) area, a new roof for the dance spaces, outside landscaping and a fire services upgrade.
Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2019 and the project is expected to be completed in January 2021.
Darling Range Sports College has programs in AFL, athletics, basketball, baseball, softball, netball, soccer and swimming.
Students also have the opportunity to be involved in the school's academic excellence program, arts program, job-readiness program, and vocational education and training.
As noted by Premier Mark McGowan:
"The south-eastern corridor of Perth is experiencing a huge revitalisation.
"It is important that we have the schools and other infrastructure to meet the needs of local families.
"We are already building major assets to benefit the community, such as the Forrestfield-Airport Link train line as part of METRONET.
"Investing in our local schools is another important priority for this Government."
As noted by Forrestfield MLA Stephen Price:
"We are committed to building and upgrading public schools to meet the needs of our growing communities and cater for the interests and talents of students.
"The local community strongly raised the need for a major refurbishment of Darling Range Sports College with me and I'm pleased that the McGowan Government is delivering on our commitment.
"Darling Range Sports College was first opened in 1975 as Forrestfield Senior High School, and these new, cutting-edge facilities are a welcomed upgrade by the school community.
"This project is part of a $468.7 million investment to build and improve WA public schools."
