A detective senior constable from eastern region has been charged following an internal investigation.
The male detective has been charged with unlawful assault, assault police officer, resist a police officer and other assault-related offences.
It is alleged the incident occurred in July last year while he was off duty.
The 53-year-old was charged on summons and will appear at a magistrates' court at a later date.
