Ararat Crime Investigation Unit detectives are currently at the scene of a fatal house fire which occurred in Willaura earlier this evening, Victoria Police say.
Emergency services were notified of the fire at a residential home on Commercial St just before 6pm.
The fire, which caused extensive damage, was brought under control by CFA firefighters.
A search of the premises resulted in firefighters locating a body amongst the debris.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and are also trying to confirm the identity of the deceased person.
An arson chemist will attend the scene in an attempt to ascertain how the fire started.
