Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have released CCTV vision as they appeal for information into the theft of 63,000 limited edition Bluey coins.
On Monday 12 July 2024, police received a report that a large amount of currency had been stolen from a warehouse in Wetherill Park.
Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command arrived and were told that 63,000 unreleased limited edition $1 Bluey coins – produced by the Australian Mint – had been stolen.
An investigation into the incident was commenced by State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad under Strike Force Bandit.
During the investigation, strike force detectives located and seized 189 of the coins and charged two men for their alleged roles in the theft. Both men remain before the courts.
As investigations continue, strike force detectives are hoping to speak to a man that was seen at a Revesby bank and the driver of a white SUV that was seen outside the bank following the alleged robbery who police believe may be able to assist with inquiries.
The man is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, medium build with a black beard.
Police are also hoping to speak to the driver of a dark coloured Ford Territory seen driving around the warehouse where the coins were allegedly stolen from at the time of the robbery.
