Detectives Seize $870K Cash, $2M in Vapes

Two men will appear before court today after police seized $870,000 cash, $2 million worth of vapes and over $350,000 worth of illegal tobacco in Homebush West overnight.

About 4pm yesterday (Monday 15 July 2024), detectives attached to State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad stopped a Toyota Van travelling on Arthur Street, Homebush West.

During the stop detectives located a satchel bag containing $40,000 cash.

Following a search of the vehicle, detectives located and seized a shopping bag containing $80,000 cash and a suitcase containing $750,000 cash. The total amount seized during the stop was $870,000 cash.

Detectives arrested the driver, a 37-year-old man, and the front passenger, a 34-year-old man, before taking them to Auburn Police Station.

Following further inquiries, detectives – with assistance from South West Metropolitan Operation Support Group – executed a search warrant on a unit in Arthur Street, Homebush West, at 8.10pm yesterday.

During the search detectives located and seized 50,000 vapes and 350,000 cigarettes. The combined street value of all items seized was over $2.3 million.

Both men were charged with knowingly deal with proceeds of crime and were refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Tuesday 16 July 2024).

Investigations are continuing.
