Bass Coast Shire Council is encouraging the community to dispose of unwanted household chemicals at the Detox your Home event, coming to Wonthaggi on Sunday, 31 October.
Detox your Home is a free and convenient service for householders to safely dispose of unwanted toxic chemicals. Detox your Home events are designed to accept a specific range of highly toxic household chemicals that aren't normally accepted at most transfer stations because they pose a high risk when combined or stored in large volumes.
Toxic household chemicals, such as cleaning products, pool chemicals, pesticides and herbicides can be disposed of during the event. Paint, fluorescent lights and batteries are not accepted.
To check the full list of what is accepted and to register for the Wonthaggi event, head to www.detoxwonthaggi2021.eventbrite.com.au.
Safe storage and disposal of household chemicals is essential to avoid harm to you, your family, pets and the environment. It's dangerous to throw chemical products out with your regular rubbish collection as they could explode, ignite, leak or mix with other chemicals. Pouring household chemicals down the drain will pollute our waterways, harm animals and vegetation, contaminate our water supply and make rivers and beaches unsafe for swimming.
Detox your Home events are staffed by experts who understand how to safely manage toxic household chemicals. Chemicals are safely stored during the event and then transported to a licensed facility for processing.
With your safety in mind, Detox your Home events are now drive-through (no walk-ins) and contactless, supported by a COVID-safe plan. Registration is essential.
If you can't make it to Wonthaggi, there is also a Detox your Home event being held at the Koonwarra Transfer Station on the same day that Bass Coast residents and property owners can register for.
