Developer Guarantee Promises More Affordable Apartments

Tasmanian Government

Tasmanians are set to see more housing options made available through the latest residential development incentive.

The Apartment Development Purchase Program is being delivered as a part of the Tasmanian Government's 100-day plan, supporting a suite of initiatives to stimulate housing supply, increase the availability of medium density apartments and deliver more affordable rentals.

Acting Minister for Housing and Planning, Roger Jaensch said under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, this Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to supplying more housing options for Tasmanians.

"This program will deliver affordable rentals across our state, taking us one step closer to our commitment of 10,000 additional social and affordable homes by 2032," Minister Jaensch said.

"Under this program, we will guarantee the purchase of ten per cent of units off the plan to be managed as affordable rental housing.

"A Request for Tender (RFT) for the Apartment Development Purchase Program is now registered on the Tasmanian Government's Tender website and will open for bids later this month.

"Builders and developers across the state are encouraged to participate in the upcoming RFT to bring forward new residential apartment developments with a minimum of 25 units, in well-located areas where Tasmanians want to live," he said.

Apartments must be ready for occupation by 30 June 2027.
