Diamond Floats Into Heart

Niessing

The Niessing Spannring® is the world's first 'tension' ring, and its distinct aesthetic of a diamond suspended in the band was a revolution in the world of diamond setting when it was first introduced to the public more than 40 years ago.

It's the engagement ring that makes you look twice and appears as though it has been crafted using magic. German jeweller Niessing was the first luxury, contemporary jewellery designer in the world to craft it.

Niessing CEO Sandro Erl said that, even today, as Niessing celebrates its 150th anniversary, the pioneering design continues to evolve to incorporate new trends and techniques.

"Our designers expand the use of elegant forms and curves to best present the ring's diamond," Sandro said.

"Further developing the idea of a timeless design like the Spannring® is an exciting challenge for our designers. We want to give the diamond the best stage on which to shine.

"Designs like the Spannring® Highend Highlights are a perfect example for our understanding of sensual minimalism. The sparkle of small diamonds set around the edge of the edge, as well as the feature diamond 'floating' in a setting, give the ring a contemporary yet romantic look."

"The Spannring® Bauhaus plays with the form of the band, incorporating both the sensuality of the circle and the grandeur of a square, and creating a cradle for the diamond where its ends meet."

There are now 18 Spannring® designs and shapes available, as well as a collection of Spannring® earrings and pendants.

"Niessing's Spannring® designs are also available in six romantic shades and two finishes," Sandro said.

"Each Niessing Spannring®, individually crafted by our experienced craftswomen and men in the Niessing workshop in Germany, is customised using different shades and finishes.

"Creating beautiful gold colours is an important part of our design philosophy, and they're carried across our range of wedding bands so couples can create a perfect match on their big day."

Niessing's metal specialists use their own trade secrets to formulate alloys that are then used to create the brand's chromatic spectrum of gold and platinum colours. All its alloys are made in-house using Au 1000 (fine gold), admixtures of silver, copper, platinum or palladium to create the unique Niessing colours.

The unique spectrum now ranges from Classic Yellow and Rosewood to Spring Green and Fine Gray, to suit a wide range of individual styles and skin tones.

It was 1979 when, in the German town of Vreden, Ursula Exner and Walter Wittek created a future design classic. Exner is the granddaughter of Niessing founder Hermann Niessing, Wittek a renowned sculptor and, in the 44 years since, the Spannring® has cemented itself as one of the world's most coveted engagement rings. The Spannring®, now protected by copyright, can be found in the collections of world-class galleries, including New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) and Vienna's Technical Museum.
