Disability Drop-Off Zone Opens in Ararat's Barkly Street

Ararat's CBD will soon see improved accessibility with Ararat Rural City Council's recent decision to implement a dedicated disability drop-off zone in Barkly Street.

The new drop-off zone will ensure that passengers can safely exit vehicles with adequate space for mobility aids, significantly reducing the risk of accidents or injuries due to hurried or improper unloading.

The designated area will also allow disability vans and maxi taxis to safely unload passengers, reducing hazards associated with on-street drop-offs and allowing transport providers to assist clients without obstructing traffic flow.

The drop-off zone will be strategically located at the road bend outside Quinn & Co Eyewear, replacing the currently designated motorcycle parking area. This central location will provide greater traffic visibility, as well as improved access to local businesses and public amenities for those with disabilities.

Council will proceed with the design phase of the project following engagement with Barkly Street businesses and the community.
