The disappearance of a man in the far west of South Australia is being considered suspicious by police who have launched a large scale investigation into the full circumstance of the case.
The investigation began about 10.30am today after a farmer picked up a man on the Eyre Highway near Nundroo – 160km west of Ceduna – whose vehicle had run out of fuel.
The farmer took the man to Yalata, 60km further west, and police then returned with him to his vehicle.
Blood was noticed in and on the vehicle, a grey coloured 2018 TJ Holden wagon, registered number 1MW8SG (pictured) which was cordoned off and treated as a crime scene.
Police investigating the matter believe a second man had been travelling in the vehicle and is now missing.
The identity of the missing man has not yet been formally confirmed.
Ceduna Police are coordinating the investigation with detective from the Major Crime Investigation Branch, a police dog team, Forensic Response investigators and a search coordinator flying to Ceduna to assist.
Detective Superintendent Des Bray, from Major Crime, said police were keen to hear from anyone who saw two Afghan men in the vehicle anywhere from Port Augusta, where it was last seen about 5.46pm last night, and the Nullarbor Roadhouse, just over the Western Australia border.
He appealed for anyone who was travelling in the area, or has dash cam footage showing the vehicle, to come forward.
