A stellar lineup of Flinders University filmmakers, writers and directors are involved in this year's Adelaide Film Festival.
Flinders University students and staff can grab a discount on their AFF (running from 19 to 30 October) tickets and support the new releases by our graduates and fellowship recipients.
As well as several other standout features, Flinders University Cole Larsen Fellowship recipients Tim Carlier and Emma Hough Hobbs are presenting their exploration of filmmaking in Paco and a short animation called On Film.
Supported by local film producer Peter Hanlon, Flinders University and the Mercury CX, the Hanlon Larsen Fellowship honours the legacy of late Flinders Screen lecturer Cole Larsen and his interest in experimental film, producing new experimental screen works for premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival.
Emma is also curator of the AFF animated film program, while Flinders graduate Hari Prasad is the festival's program coordinator.
Other Flinders graduates making their feature film directorial with AFF premieres feature Carnifex with Sean Lahiff as director and Helen Leake as producer and Monolith featuring Matt Vesely as director, Bettina Hamilton producer, Tania Nehme editor and Michael Tessari cinematographer.
Recent Indigenous graduates Adam Dixon-Galea (sound designer, sound editor and sound recordist) and Maya Coombs (production design) worked on Rolf de Heer's highly anticipated 15th feature film premiere of The Survival of Kindness, which was produced by Julie Byrne.
The AFF opening night feature documentary, The Angels: Kickin' Down the Door, features work by graduates Emma McGavisk (editor) and Renee Diprose (assistant editor) and The Last Daughter involves Brendon Skinner (producer), Simon Williams (producer), David Scarborough (editor), Maya Coombs (production design team) and Elle Baldock (production design team).
The AFF's Made in SA local short film showcase features strong representation from recent Flinders University graduates, including Are You Really the Universe? with Tamara Hardman (director), Balaclava: Brendon Skinner (producer) and Aaron Schuppan (DOP), The Bad Realms,Downpour: Henry Reimer Meaney (director), Heavy Red: Aaron Schuppan (writer/director) and Flinders University Honours film It Happened in Copley Street: Guy Nelson (director).
The Flinders University award for Best Short Film will be presented on closing night.
Flinders University Senior Lecturer in Screen Dr Nicholas Godfrey has written on this year's Don Dunstan Award recipient, producer David Jowsey - who he describes as one of the "most influential figures shaping Australia's screen landscape over the past decade" - in the AFF 2022 Don Dunstan Award Essay.
Flinders University Associate Professor Ali Gumilya Baker is sitting on the competition jury and Associate Professor Mike Walsh co-wrote the festival program notes.
