Campaspe Shire Council in partnership with Healthy Loddon Campaspe (HLC) is excited to offer a geocaching competition in Rochester during the upcoming school holidays, from Saturday, 5 April to Sunday, 20 April 2025.

Geocaching is a fun and active outdoor recreational activity where participants use GPS devices or smartphone apps to hide and/or seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches," at specific locations marked by GPS coordinates.

For this competition HLC will hide three caches of fun trinkets in Rochester, with finders able to go in the draw for prizes including sports store vouchers, a Razor scooter, and a Fitbit.

The HLC geocaching competition is open to people of all ages, and participating is easy. Just follow these simple steps:

  • Pick up a geocaching card from Rochester Library or download one from the HLC website;
  • Search to find the 'HLCGeocaching' caches using the app geocaching.com;
  • At each cache:
    • Collect a sticker and add it to your geocaching card;
    • Snap a picture of yourself with the sticker, a trinket, or logbook (but don't give away the location!);
    • Grab a trinket for yourself, and put the cache back where you found it; then
  • Upload your photo to Facebook or Instagram and tag Healthy Loddon Campaspe, or email it to [email protected]

The first 20 people to find a HLC geocache and send in a picture will receive a family pass to Echuca War Memorial Aquatics Centre (limit of one voucher per household).

Those who collect all three of the stickers and send in a photo of their completed geocaching card will go in the draw to win one of three major prizes:

  • 1st prize: A Fitbit;
  • 2nd prize: A Razor scooter and helmet;
  • 3rd prize: A $100 sports store voucher.

The draw for the larger prizes will be conducted after the competition ends

Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell said geocaching was a great way for family members of all ages to take part in an activity together.

"What better way to spend some family time these school holidays than with an easy and yet engaging activity that all members of the family, no matter their age, can enjoy as a group?

"You'll not only have fun, but you could also win one of the fantastic prizes on offer – so I encourage you to grab a geocaching card from Rochester Library and get searching!"
