City of Ryde's Diwali Festival of Lights competition is back for its second year, with $2,500 in prizes on offer for the most creative and spectacular household displays which now also includes submissions of residents' Rangoli artworks.
Ryde residents from all backgrounds are encouraged to light up and decorate their homes and apartments to celebrate the 2024 Festival of Lights, which is the biggest and most important holiday on the Indian calendar.
Homes are decorated, and floors inside and out are covered with Rangoli, which consists of designs made of coloured rice, sand, or flower petals. It's an easy way to celebrate and participate in Diwali, as Rangoli designs can be simple or elaborate, allowing everyone to express their creativity regardless of skill level.
This unique competition also promotes sustainability within the City of Ryde, with Council encouraging participants to use energy-efficient LED or solar LED lights.
Entries to the Diwali Festival of Lights competition open on Monday 23 September 2024.
